Last night in the talk show of Humberto Tan on RTL 4, it was extensively about the farmers’ protests that had gotten out of hand. “How do you get that debate back into a debate about the subject and not just about these excesses, even if it is from a small group?” he asks arable farmer Anton Bartelen at one point.

Sensation-hungry

Anton then indicates that he thinks it is a shame that the talk show is so much about cross-border farmers. “Humberto, it is actually a pity that that very small group is being discussed here for fifteen minutes.”

Humberto: “Yes, but what do you want if you threaten a minister and threaten police officers?”

Then Anton throws a sneer at the media. “With all due respect, the media is sensational. Never mind, but things like this are taken out of context.”

Humberto angry

Humberto is not pleased with that comment. “Anton, you know what I regret about this discussion? Criminal offenses are being investigated right now, attempted manslaughter and really: the media is to blame?”

Anton: “No, no, no, hey, hey, you won’t hear me say that.”

Humberto: “You just said that.”

Anton: “We just talk too long about a small group that is being researched and where a lot of…”

Caroline intervenes

Fellow table guest Caroline van der Plas intervenes. She stands up for Anton. “What Anton means is that he really wants to talk about the content of the problem.”

Anton: “Yes, this obscures the image. Before the broadcast, we actually all talked about it a bit: these kinds of images cloud the discussion that needs to be had.”
