Game of Thrones spin-off House of the Dragon was released on August 21st. The first five episodes have already been released – the cast is to change with the coming episode: two main actresses will be exchanged due to a major change in the further plot.

The sudden incision is related to the book template of George RR Martin’s novel “Fire and Blood”, which provides for several large leaps in time. To date, the time jumps have been limited to more than a year. Now the range is to be increased a lot more: ten years are to be skipped from episode five to six – and that requires a new cast.

The main actresses affected are Milly Alcock as heir to the throne Rhaenyra Targaryen and Emily Carey as her friend Alicent Hightower. These are now to be replaced by Emma D’Arcy as Rhaenyra and Olivia Cooke (“Bates Motel”) as Alicent. The older characters like King Viserys (Paddy Considine), Prince Daemon (Matt Smith) and Ser Harold (Graham McTavish) are still played by the same actors. Ironically, Milly Alcock became a fan favorite in House of the Dragon. So far, the prequel series has achieved record-breaking success. Therefore, it remains to be seen how fans will react to the new roles and whether the success rate can continue.
