1. FC Heidenheim suffered their sixth defeat in a row. Coach Frank Schmidt is really pissed off after the “non-performance” in the European Cup in Istanbul.
After the disappointing 1:3 defeat in the Conference League at Istanbul Başakşehir, coach Frank Schmidt from 1. FC Heidenheim expressed clear criticism of his team.
The coach spoke of a “non-performance” and left no doubt that the team fell far short of expectations. “With very few exceptions, we have to say that what we set out to do didn’t work. We haven’t come close to reaching our minimum performance – with one or two drawbacks,” said Schmidt. His team was “demonstrated from the first to the last second,” rumbled the ex-professional.
In an interview with RTL, Schmidt made it clear that he wanted to process the performance first. “What kind of arguments should I bring up now? Everything I would say now would be empty phrases – and I’m not in the mood for that.” Norman Theuerkauf was also frustrated. He finds it difficult to describe the situation. “Of course we are pissed off and very dissatisfied with the situation, which is really not easy,” explained the experienced player.
The defeat in Istanbul was the sixth competitive defeat in a row. While Heidenheim is on course for the intermediate round in the Conference League despite the crisis with nine points from five games, the situation in the Bundesliga is precarious. There they finally slipped into relegation place.
On Sunday (3:30 p.m. in the t-online live ticker) the situation could worsen even further due to another defeat in the Baden-Württemberg derby against the favored runner-up VfB Stuttgart.
