FC Volendam is (temporarily) out of last place in the Eredivisie. The relegation cracker against FC Emmen ended in 1-1, making Vitesse the new red lantern bearer. Walid Ould-Chikh brilliantly made it 1-0, but it was nullified by Ahmed El Messaoudi.
Benaissa Benamar and Bilal Ould-Chikh returned to the base at FC Volendam. Benamar did fill in against Ajax, but was ill last week. Ould-Chikh was missing against the team from Amsterdam after a red card against Fortuna Sittard. Volendam and FC Emmen needed the points badly and it showed. The first attempt of the match was for Ibrahim El Kadiri. Goalkeeper Mickey van der Hart (former Ajax) was able to save the ball. After that, it was mainly the home team that struck the clock.
Rui Mendes shot just wide of the goal. Moments later, Jeroen Veldmate had a great chance for the header, which flew just over. Emmen became dangerous several times through Mark Diemers, Ahmed El Messaoudi and Mohamed Bouchouari. Especially with the latter possibility, Volendam got away well, the attacker did not score for an empty goal. In between, the Volendam team had opportunities through Robert Mühren and Carel Eiting. Despite the chances, the score was still equal at half time.

Quick equalizer
Substitute Walid Ould-Chikh tried it from a distance. His bet was touched and shattered on the post. FC Emmen got away well there. In the end it was also Walid Ould-Chikh who scored after 64 minutes. He cut his man free and brushed hard from the edge of sixteen: 0-1. The lead was not to be enjoyed for long. From a cross by Mendes, El Messaouidi scored the equalizer: 1-1.
Wim Jonk tried to force something in the final phase by replacing Lequincio Zeefuik for Benamar. That was no longer possible, despite a number of great opportunities for Emmen. Due to the draw against Emmen, Volendam rises one place in the ranking. That makes it seventeenth. Vitesse can hand over the red lantern again, they will play against Cambuur tomorrow at 9 p.m.
