Marvin Friedrich does not play a major role at Borussia Mönchengladbach this season. Most recently, the defender publicly expressed his dissatisfaction. Gladbach manager Roland Virkus is now reporting on the personnel.
For example, the sports director issues a ban on the defender from changing. “What should be about his future? He has a contract until 2026, the question answers itself,” said Virkus on “Bild”. “Yeah, he’s staying here,” was the manager’s definitive reply. So there will probably be no change of the 27-year-old, who made people sit up and take notice a few weeks ago.
“I give everything, offer myself. And yet I play no role at all. I am absolutely dissatisfied with the current situation and feel zero point zero trust,” Friedrich said publicly about his in an interview with “Sport Bild” in mid-April situation complained.
“Something has to change for me, it can’t go on like this. I wouldn’t have left Union for every club, but I just had the best feeling in Gladbach,” he classified his move from Union Berlin to Borussia.
Is there still a Gladbach future for Friedrich?
Since the interview about a month ago, Friedrich has at least been able to gather some match practice again. In the last Bundesliga duel against VfL Bochum (2-0), he was on the pitch for the entire season. The central defender showed an appealing performance. Friedrich replaced the red-banned Japanese international Ko Itakura in the center of defence. He was out of shape lately.
Another possible reason why Gladbach manager Virkus has vetoed the 27-year-old is the upcoming transfer period. The club from the Lower Rhine is likely to face several departures in the summer.
In order to be able to attack again in the coming season, Friedrich’s leadership quality would certainly help the Gladbachers.
