Fortuna – Utrecht shut down twice after fireworks and beer on the field

The match between Fortuna Sittard and FC Utrecht in the Eredivisie was stopped twice on Friday. Referee Allard Lindhout interrupted the game after 52 minutes after fireworks were thrown onto the field from the area for visiting supporters.

One of the projectiles exploded near FC Utrecht reserves that were warming up. Lindhout stopped the game after 72 minutes after fans of Fortuna had thrown beer cups onto the field.

Supporters of FC Utrecht also misbehaved during the home game with Ajax last week. They made jungle noises to Brian Brobbey, the striker of the visitors from Amsterdam. A fan of FC Utrecht threw a firecracker bomb on the field and was arrested after that game. Earlier this season, riots broke out after the match between FC Utrecht and SC Cambuur.

Fans of Fortuna threw beer cups after FC Utrecht had used a penalty that they considered wrongly awarded.
