Sakhir (dpa) – Ferrari will extend the contract with the Spanish Formula 1 driver Carlos Sainz, which expires at the end of the year. They are “very, very close,” said Sainz after Scuderia’s double success at the start in Bahrain.
Team boss Mattia Binotto said: “We have an agreement. We just have to put it on paper.” Winner Charles Leclerc and second Sainz gave Ferrari their first double success in around two and a half years in the first Grand Prix of the year on Sunday. Leclerc (24) still has a contract with the Scuderia until the end of 2024. Sainz had replaced Sebastian Vettel for the 2021 season, who had not received a new contract and had switched to Aston Martin.
