Argentinian soccer world champion Angel Di Maria returns to Benfica after 13 years. This was announced by the team headed by German coach Roger Schmidt on Wednesday (07/05/23).
The 35-year-old Di Maria joins Benfica on a free transfer after his previous employer Juventus Turin had not extended the winger’s expiring contract. The Portuguese champions initially gave no information about the duration of his new working paper.
Di Maria moved to Lisbon from Argentinian club Rosario Central in the summer of 2007 for eight million euros. In his three years at Benfica he won, among other things, the Portuguese championship. In 2010, the world champion then went to Real Madrid, with the royal team, Di Maria was crowned champions league winner in 2014. Further stints at Manchester United and Paris St. Germain followed before the 35-year-old joined Juve last summer.
