Bayer Leverkusen’s offensive jewel Florian Wirtz has recently been traded more hotly at FC Bayern. It now seems clear how far the German record champions have made efforts to sign the 20-year-old national player.
It is not FC Bayern, but Bayer Leverkusen that is at the top of the Bundesliga table after eight match days. Florian Wirtz played a large part in the Werkself’s impressive run, which has so far taken 22 out of 24 possible points.
After tearing his cruciate ligament in spring 2022, the young playmaker has found his way back to his old strength. Wirtz is mostly used under Bayer’s successful coach Xabi Alonso. His statistics already include seven goal participations (three goals, four assists) in eleven competitive games in 2023/2024.
So it’s no wonder that the rumors about FC Bayern’s interest in Wirtz, which have never completely died down, have recently picked up speed again. Honorary President Uli Hoeneß has long been considered a great admirer and internal advocate of the youngster.
“Sport1” even reported that the Munich team could be involved in a bidding war for Wirtz next summer, for whom Leverkusen will ask for a transfer fee beyond the 100 million euro limit.
FC Bayern: No talks with Florian Wirtz yet?
However, it appears that FC Bayern hasn’t made much headway in wooing Wirtz. There have not yet been any discussions with the players’ side, reports “AZ”, citing its own information. But the Munich newspaper also writes that this could soon change.
One thing is clear: FC Bayern would not be without competition in a possible transfer poker. FC Barcelona has been said to be very interested in Wirtz for months.
Of course, the wealthy clubs from the English Premier League also have their sights on him.
Wirtz himself is keeping a low profile about his future. “We’ve had a very good season with Leverkusen so far, it’s fun at the club. That’s why my thoughts are only in Leverkusen. I still have a pretty long contract. That’s why I don’t need to worry about my future at the moment,” he said recently the “Bild am Sonntag”.
