In the sporting crisis at FC Bayern, the calls for a real centre-forward to succeed Robert Lewandowski are getting louder. An attacker from Portugal’s record champions Benfica is traded as a winter newcomer.
As the “Sun” reported, Munich are dealing with Goncalo Ramos. It is not the first time that the 21-year-old Portuguese has been associated with a move to Bayern Munich.
As early as 2019, the German record champion is said to have had Benfica’s own growth on the slip. In the summer of this year, the Portuguese newspaper “Record” brought him up for discussion again at FC Bayern.
However, the rumors were not concrete on either occasion.
Big competition for FC Bayern
According to “Sun”, not only FC Bayern put out feelers to Ramos. Manchester United and Newcastle United from the English Premier League are also said to be interested. The Red Devils are ready to pay 28.5 million euros to buy Ramos out of his working paper, which is valid until 2026.
Ramos went through all youth departments at Benfica. Last season, the youngster was the perfect counterpart to Darwin Núnez, who switched to Liverpool FC for around 75 million euros in the summer.
Unlike Núnez, however, Ramos did not primarily take on the goal-scoring role, he rather presented himself as a busy assistant.
Also because of the clear division of tasks at Benfica, Ramos only scored seven goals in 29 league games last season.
Since leaving Núnez, however, Ramos has taken on more responsibility, including when it comes to scoring goals. After twelve competitive games, he has eight goals and five assists.
New striker for FC Bayern? Julian Nagelsmann wants to think about it
At Bayern, Ramos could fill a gap in the squad. After FC Bayern’s sobering 1-0 draw against FC Augsburg at the weekend, coach Julian Nagelsmann announced that he wanted to think about signing a striker in the winter.
Sadio Mané, who was supposed to score goals as successor to Robert Lewandowski, is currently struggling with jamming and has been waiting for a goal since the third Bundesliga matchday.
Sports director Hasan Salihamidzic also recently commented on possible offensive reinforcements, but was more covered than Nagelsmann.
“Why should I worry when the transfer time is over? We can do it, we also have players for it. Only, we have to finish it better,” said the 45-year-old, looking at the poor offensive performances of the past few weeks .
