First Glass Shack comes to Zuidlaren in the week before Christmas

Forget The Glass House of 3FM. The municipality of Tynaarlo will receive a ‘Glass Shack’ in the run-up to Christmas. For four days, radio is made from the shack for charity: Food Bank Tynaarlo.

“Better stolen well than badly conceived,” says Jacob van Gelder of Tynaarlo Lokaal. The local broadcaster is responsible for the ‘radio four days’ from the Brink in Zuidlaren. Money is collected in all kinds of ways for the Food Bank Tynaarlo, which provides about 450 families with food every week. “It is crazy for words that we are working with food banks in the Netherlands,” says Van Gelder. “But it’s nice that we can support them like this.”

On Tuesday 20 December, the starting shot will be given by King’s Commissioner Jetta Klijnsma. “She will also join the first broadcast,” says Van Gelder. Every day from 3 to 9 radio is made. “We rearrange every hour. Business and local politics also play a role.”

Van Gelder, himself in the city council on behalf of Tynaarlo Municipal Interests, has found other factions willing to deposit 100 euros. “But we also got Wilfred Genee to contribute, for example.”

There is also a lot of room for regional music talent during the broadcasts, Van Gelder promises. “A lot of things are happening. All with the aim of eventually collecting as much money as possible for Voedelbank Tynaarlo.”

In addition, attention is paid every day to the origin of food and ways to prevent food waste. “The listeners are given tips and tricks to make a delicious Christmas dinner with few resources,” Van Gelder outlines.

If it’s up to Tynaarlo Lokaal, it won’t stop at this one edition. “As far as we are concerned, we do it every year at a different location in the municipality of Tynaarlo. You could then connect a different goal to it every time.”

On Friday 23 December, youth worker and Glazen Shack DJ Robin Geertsma will announce the total amount of the action week.
