The first evening of the City Light Festival in Hoogeveen was a great success. This is what organizer Albert Jan Vos says. Last night’s opening night, the festival attracted an estimated five thousand more visitors than last year.
“It was unusually busy in the center last night,” Vos looks back on the kick-off of the City Light Festival. “Really fantastic. Last year there were 25,000 people on the opening night, last night we estimated the number of visitors at 30,000.”
During the third edition of the City Light Festival, visitors can enjoy numerous light artworks, performances, a Christmas market and a fair. “Last night was the best opening evening of the three. It was also very busy in the shops, which we also liked. We can only look back on a very successful opening evening.”
What surprised Vos himself most is that the entire center of Hoogeveen was busy last night. “In previous years it was often still quiet in the part from the church square to De Tamboer. This year we really invested in lighting that part well, with extra entertainment and a beautiful Christmas tree. Now that part was also well attended And the winter beer festival starts there tonight, and it will be very busy there.”
Vos has only received positive reactions, he says. “People call it un-Hoogeveens and un-Drents. So much entertainment and so many lights. There is something to see every ten meters.”
The City Light Festival can still be visited today and tomorrow afternoon.
