Ex-footballer Jerko Tipuric (64) tells his story for the first time after he saved 16 children from a bus just before a train crash: “I was on another planet”

Bus driver Jerko Tipuric (64), former professional football player and football coach, has looked back for the first time in ‘Het Nieuwsblad’ on the accident in Veldegem (West Flanders) in which he saved the lives of 16 children two weeks ago. He evacuated his bus just in time for an oncoming train after it had stopped at a railway crossing. “I acted, yes. But how? Don’t know. At that moment you are on another planet.”
