In addition to the LAFC, 18 more clubs of the 30 mls teams have at least one place for a “designated player”-there would be space for Müller, which could not otherwise be obliged under the normal salary limit. But only the name of a single other MLS club is mentioned in connection with the ex-international.

The club from Ohio could still have a special meaning: because Müller has been on his “Discovery List” for some time, on which every MLS club can rely up to seven “wish players”. If this player actually wants to switch to the USA, the respective club then has a privilege on the obligation. Since Cincinnati Müller has even made a – rejected – contract offer, other interested clubs would first have to negotiate with the current first table of the Eastern Conference of the MLS about a transfer. Cincinnati also has a “designated player” place.

“We are an association with a great German history and in a position to win titles,” said Cincinnati-Boss Jeff Berding in June. He apparently does not give up hope: “We made him a good offer, had some discussions with his consultants. In the end, he has many options. We respect if he and his consultants are looking for something else.” But: “It is not over before he didn’t sign another club.” You know what to offer: “A large stadium, a good atmosphere and great conditions. Who knows what will happen in the end.”

Müller himself praised the conditions in the city in Ohio, played against Auckland at the club World Cup with Bavaria: “You have to say that the entire stadium and the spectators were also very good. They have very good conditions here.”

The United States now seems to be as a goal. “Yes, there is a chance, but I have to think about it,” said Müller a few weeks ago during the club World Cup about moving to the country. “There may be a few conversations in the background.” Even more: “We’ll see, but now I don’t know yet.”

That was in mid -June. Now a final decision is scheduled in a few days. Anything but a change to the USA would be a big surprise.
