Eva Jinek is apparently very dissatisfied with a salary proposal from RTL 4, because otherwise she would never let her boss Peter van der Vorst dangle like this. TV connoisseur Victor Vlam has that idea.
It is the most unexpected development in the soap about Eva Jinek’s contract extension to date: the presenter has said in front of the RTL Boulevard camera that not RTL, but she does not yet know whether they will continue together. And that is strange, because her viewing figures have fallen sharply and she will still be able to earn well after a salary drop.
Remarkable statement
Critics think these are ‘bold statements’ by Eva and according to TV connoisseur Rob Goossens, she cannot afford to leave RTL in the dark until autumn. How does the feared media connoisseur Victor Vlam view the situation?
Victor speaks in his podcast The Communicados of a remarkable statement. “Completely against expectations, really completely against expectations, she made this statement about it. It is a remarkable statement, because what she is actually saying here is: ‘RTL wants me, but if I want RTL: I will let them know in six months, have a nice day.’”
Playing hard to get
According to Victor, it is clear that this is the case playing hard to get. “Yes, that is really a very, very remarkable statement. It is a remarkable statement, because first of all: she could have seen this question coming, and she could not have said anything about it, which usually just happens.”
It seems like a set-up, he says. “If she had said: ‘We’ll have dinner soon and then we’ll see’, it would never have been broadcast, we wouldn’t have talked about it. But she said this and then she also knows that this of course just makes news. I think this statement means two things.”
Very dissatisfied
What is the first meaning? “That it is an implicit confirmation of the fact that RTL wants to reduce its salary and probably wants to cut it drastically. That in itself is not a surprise, because the viewing figures do not justify that it is more than a million euros per year, but you can see this as confirmation of that.”
The question, of course, is how much they want to lower it, he says. “We do not know that. Do they want to go back to 900, 600 or 300 thousand? But I do think that the fact that she made this statement like this and actually just let the RTL management dangle, indicates that she is apparently very dissatisfied with the proposal she received from RTL.”
Other proposal?
And the second point? “That she actually makes it very clear to other channels that she is quite open to another proposal this summer. So, for example, if you are a public broadcasting director, you know that you have to submit your proposal to Eva before the end of the summer, so that she can take it into account.”
It’s just a straight invitation, says Victor. “She says very publicly, ‘Guys, I’m open to other ideas. I don’t know yet if I want to stay with RTL.’ Again, you rarely see this kind of thing, that prominent media personalities speak so openly about their contract negotiations.”
