Status: 08/19/2022 2:11 p.m

For the German beach volleyball players, the dream of a medal at the home European Championships in Munich is over. Karla Borger and Julia Sude as well as Chantal Laboreur and Sarah Schulz each failed in the quarter-finals on Friday.

Borger/Sude (Düsseldorf), who won bronze at the European Championships last year, lost 0:2 (18:21, 18:21) to the 2019 European champions Tina Graudina/Anastasija Kravcenoka from Latvia. The German champions Laboureur/Schulz (Stuttgart/Düsseldorf) lost 0:2 (12:21, 15:21) to the defending champions Tanja Hüberli/Nina Brunner from Switzerland.

The quarterfinal game of the German duo Borger and Sude against the Latvians Kravcenoka/Graudina.

“The pass didn’t work out that well, the aggressiveness on the serve was lacking,” said Sude after the game against the Latvians. In the second set, the team was “on again”, explained Borger: “But somehow it wasn’t supposed to be”. However, the players praised the event. The EM in Munich is “a completely different organization” than what you were “used to” said Sude and criticized the international Beach Pro Tour. There “sometimes there isn’t even a player area”.

Nils Ehlers and Clemens Wickler are in demand in the round of 16 against Austria’s Christoph Dressler/Alexander Huber. It starts at 3 p.m.
