Former deputy of Forum for Democracy Eric de Bie is the new leader of Interest of the Netherlands (BVNL) in the Senate. He will also be the Brabant party leader in the Provincial Elections on March 15.
The party board has put him in first place on the electoral list for the Senate. De Bie is very happy with the reaction of the members.
“I can say that we are the only classical liberal party in the Netherlands. The fact that I can lead the Senate list for that party is a great privilege.”
According to him, it is no problem that he is on the list in both elections. “You can take a seat in both the Senate and the Provincial Council and that is already happening.”
De Bie already once in the Provincial Council for Forum for Democracy. First as a Member of Parliament in 2019 and then he became a deputy. In 2021, he and two party members switched to the split-off Group Van Haga (now BVNL), because he disagreed with controversial statements by Forum leader Thierry Baudet.
De Bie is very hopeful for the upcoming elections. “I think we can certainly keep our three seats in Brabant in the Provincial Council. In the Senate, that could just become two, three or perhaps four seats.”
