More than 200 people gathered at the playground on Zonstraat in Kerkrade on Saturday evening to commemorate 9-year-old Gino. The boy’s sisters were also present.
At the playground there is now a sea of flowers for the boy.

At the emotional gathering, the volunteers were thanked for their efforts in the search for the missing boy. Then balloons were released. Plush toys and flowers have also been laid on the Gildeweg in Maastricht, where Gino comes from.
On Saturday, an appeal was also made to participate in a memorial tour on Wednesday evening to pay Gino one last tribute.
Gone
The boy disappeared from the playground on Wednesday evening. A day later, a scooter was found in Landgraaf that may have belonged to Gino. Clothes were also found Friday evening that may have something to do with the case.

Body
On Saturday morning, Gino’s body was found at a house on Opbraakstraat in Geleen. In the night from Friday to Saturday, a 22-year-old citizen of the city was arrested. Information from L1 shows that it is Donny M.. The 22-year-old man has been arrested for kidnapping and possible involvement in Gino’s death. He is also known to the police and the judiciary.

The boy’s family is “in shock and deeply saddened” after the boy, who had been missing since Wednesday, has been found dead. A void that cannot be filled is stated in a statement on behalf of the family.

It is not yet clear whether a silent tour will be organized for Gino outside of this moment and the announced memorial tour. Mayor Petra Dassen of the municipality of Kerkrade wants to discuss this with the family.
