The German publisher Ravensburger Verlag explained that the books should be viewed from the perspective of historical reality, against which they presented a ‘romanticized image with many clichés’. In the Netherlands, Meulenhoff Boekerij gives the Winnetoutitles out. When asked, this publisher, one of the largest book publishers in the Netherlands (and market leader in e-books), let us know by email this afternoon: ‘We are following the German line and will stop sales as of today.’
According to a spokesperson, these are electronic copies and Winnetou-books that will be delivered on request. “We are currently working on arranging that,” said the spokeswoman. For the time being, there is no further explanation from Meulenhoff.
