Drenthe tourism sector fears consequences of inflation and new corona wave

A large part of the entrepreneurs in the Drenthe tourism and recreation sector is concerned about the consequences of the rising prices for their financial situation. The possible consequences of a new corona wave are also worrying, especially for the catering industry and daytime recreation. This is apparent from research by Marketing Drenthe.

More than 70 percent of the catering industry and daytime recreation (such as museums) already has financial headaches. An even larger group (76 percent) say they fear financial setbacks if prices (continue to) rise.

More than 90 percent of this group shudders at the possible consequences of a new corona wave. This could lead to restrictions in opening hours and the number of guests that can be received. 16 percent take into account a (possible) bankruptcy.

Owners of recreational accommodation (such as holiday parks and campsites) also have difficulty keeping their heads above water financially. About half of entrepreneurs in this sector are concerned about their financial housekeeping, and 81 percent fear setbacks in this area if inflation continues. At 10 percent, the survival of the company is at risk, the poll shows.

Marketing Drenthe also examined the opinion of the tourism sector about bookings during the autumn holidays. Managers of individual houses (71 percent) are most satisfied with this. Campsite owners are most united about disappointing booking figures: half are dissatisfied with the occupancy.
