For the Croatian tennis player Marin Cilic it was a double celebration on Wednesday. On his 34th birthday, the Croat reached the quarterfinals of the ATP tournament in Tel Aviv with a win over Dominic Thiem. Cilic defeated the Austrian, winner of the US Open in 2020, in three sets: 6-7 (6) 6-2 6-4.
Cilic has already won twenty ATP titles in his career, culminating in the win of the US Open in 2014. The former number 3 in the world is now in sixteenth place in the global ranking. The Croat is placed second in the Tel Aviv tournament. The Serbian Novak Djokovic leads the placement list.
