De Wolden is going to set up an Emergency Energy Poverty Fund. More and more residents, associations and village houses are struggling with rising energy prices. With the fund, the municipality wants to help them by looking for structural solutions that reduce energy consumption.
The plan was supported by all parties at last night’s council meeting. “We can manage with this motion. We therefore certainly want to implement the plan,” said alderman Egbert van Dijk.
The council hopes to come up with a plan to present to the council as soon as possible. “Whether we can implement the emergency fund in January seems a bit too ambitious to me. I’ll leave that dependent on the advice of our financial employees,” says Van Dijk.
The parties hope that the fund can be filled with the surplus on the annual accounts of 2022 or the budget surplus of 2023. The alderman said he will investigate whether this is possible.
According to Van Dijk, the money should not be spent on official efforts. “In other words, we prefer to use existing lines, such as counters, to provide residents with information and support.”
