It wasn’t until summer that cross-country star Anamarija Lampic decided to switch to biathlon. The Slovenian could start in the Skijäger World Cup as early as winter.
Ricco Groß, German national coach of the Slovenians, was enthusiastic about Lampic’s development. “Anamarija works very concentrated and is already doing well on the shooting range”, praised the four-time Olympic champion and nine-time world champion at the portal “siol.net“
“We are optimistic, but at the same time we will gradually build them up,” added Groß.
Lampic will initially compete in the two-class IBU Cup. But the 27-year-old should also gather her first experiences on the global biathlon stage in the World Cup – in the relay in Kontiolahti.
“It’s easier to adapt to the level of competition in a relay. Let’s see what happens after that,” said coach Gross.
For her first season after the move, Lampic isn’t putting any pressure on herself. “I have a few goals, but they don’t go very far at the moment. I don’t have any expectations for this winter. If I finish last in every race, that’s okay,” she said in an interview with “biathlonword.com” in the summer. “
Biathlon: Lampic still has difficulties with that
“There are so many new things to remember, I forget some every now and then. It really goes in one side of the head and out the other,” she described her difficulties. “When I look at the others in the team, I’m still very far behind because I started from zero.”
In the summer she ran with a rifle on her back for the first time and when she got to the shooting range she didn’t even know what to do. “Should I lie down? I was completely paralyzed. It’s still a long process, but I’m learning something new every day.”
