Harry Kane has become an integral part of FC Bayern. But the striker also has critics – even in his home country.
Harry Kane has already scored 30 goals this season in his first season at FC Bayern. The Englishman has only needed 25 games to achieve this. Robert Lewandowski’s goal record is wobbling worryingly. The Pole scored an incredible 41 goals for Munich in 2020/2021, breaking the all-time record set by DFB and FCB legend Gerd Müller (†75). Kane now has nine games left to catch up with Lewandowski or even surpass him.
While Kane delivers week after week in the Bundesliga, the 30-year-old also has critics – and in his home country of all places. Former Premier League star Chris Sutton doesn’t like one of Kane’s characteristics on the pitch at all, as he revealed in the British Daily Mail’s podcast “It’s All Kicking Off”.
Sutton: Kane gets away with it every week
Players who are known for their swallows were discussed. This involves cleverly dropping oneself while fighting for the ball with the intention of being awarded a free kick or penalty. While journalist Ian Ladyman brought up the names of stars like Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suárez, Sutton had other players in his sights when it came to the frequency of swallows.
“I would just like to mention two people that you didn’t mention,” said the former professional from Blackburn Rovers, Celtic Glasgow and Chelsea FC, among others. “It’s a scandal how you left these two out. Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United player, editor’s note), one of the worst.”
Second, he named the Bayern star: “The winner by far, but you can’t name him because he’s England’s captain, is Harry Kane. He’s the worst Swallow King.” The striker would get away with it week after week. “He’s a fantastic player, a wonderful goalscorer, has everything, but he’s a king of swallows.”
