Bayern Munich celebrated another win against Viktoria Pilsen on Wednesday (10/12/22) and thus booked a ticket for the round of 16 in the Champions League. On the sidelines of the 4:2 success, there were sharp protests from Bayern fans.
Sadio Mané opened the scoring early (10th minute), Thomas Müller added a little later (14th), Leon Goretzka (25th, 35th) increased to 4:0. In the second half, Bayern slowed down and conceded two goals from Adam Vlkanovy (62′) and Jan Kliment (75′).
Munich changed to six positions
After the late equalizer against Dortmund, which causes severe “pain” for Bayern when assessing the current condition, the guests started with concentration from the start. Coach Julian Nagelsmann was forced to change his team to six positions: Instead of Manuel Neuer, Mathis de Ligt, Alphonso Davies, Jamal Musiala, Serge Gnabry (none of them in the squad) and Marcel Sabitzer (bank), Sven Ulreich, Noussair Mazraoui, Josip start Stanišić, Joshua Kimmich, Kingsley Coman and Muller.
At the first chance in the third minute, Leroy Sané shot the ball just wide of the left post.
Airy wings with the Czechs
But only a short time later the lively goalscoring began. The first three Bayern goals were all initiated via the wings. First, Mané and Kingsley Coman had a clear path on the left: Mané completed the shot himself after a one-two with Leon Groetzka, Coman served the free-standing Müller in a central position. And then Goretzka struck twice.
Goretzka was served from the right for his first goal, Thomas Müller assisted the next, the second time Leroy Sané put through a precision pass from a central position to the starting Goretzka, who lobbed the unfortunate Pilsen keeper Jindrich Stanek with a lob. It was Pilsen’s 16th goal in their fourth Champions League appearance this year.
At this point, Müller had already left the field after injuring himself shortly before his goal preparation. The muscles in the back closed, said trainer Nagelsmann after the game at DAZN, it was nothing to worry about. On the other hand, Mosquera carelessly missed the big chance to score the first goal for the Czechs after Ulreich and Goretzka had frittered away the ball in their own 16.
Goretzka almost with the hat-trick – but Pilsen celebrates
Shortly after the break, Viktoria goalie Stanek thwarted Goretzka’s third goal with a save from a long-range shot. However, Bayern weren’t happy about the next goal, this time it was the host’s fans who were able to celebrate.
Because after an unused double chance by Erik Jirka and Ludk Pernica, Vlkanova hit an untenable low shot into the left corner from the edge of the penalty area.
As a result, the German record champions lost their dominance in the game, also because many changes broke the rhythm of the Nagelsmann team. And Pilsen took advantage of this: Libor Holik on the right side of Munich’s defense eluded the only 16-year-old Paul Wanner and passed the penalty spot, where Kliment took the ball and shot in.
Double aluminum from Munich
Startled by the second goal conceded, Bayern pushed for goal number five: first goalkeeper Stanek deflected a shot from Ryan Gravenberch to the post, a little later Mathys Tel aimed at the Pilsen goal and hit the crossbar. It was the guests’ last chances. Bayern Munich celebrated their fourth win in four games, made it through to the round of 16 and have not been defeated in eleven group games in the premier class. “In the group with twelve points – that’s not bad”Nagelsmann commented on the performance of his team at DAZN.
Fierce fan protests from Bayern over usury in ticket prices
Around the game, the organized Bayern Munich fans protested sharply against the overpriced ticket prices for the game in Pilsen. “500 percent price increase? F… you guys!“, was the headline of a message from club no. 12 and the groups of the south curve. They repeated this turn of events in the stadium. In addition, the fans stayed away from the away block until the 12th minute of the game in protest.
Pilsen is accused of having increased its price level, which is usual in the Czech league, by 500 percent with the cheapest guest card for 70 euros. be it “a shame” and “a disrespect, how the fans’ pockets are grabbed here”, it said in the open letter. The UEFA price cap with an upper limit of 70 euros for the cheapest guest ticket “useless” and Pilsen are just one example among many of the need for stricter regulation.
