West Ham United mourns Oscar Fairs. The goalkeeper died at the age of 15 after battling cancer.
English Premier League club West Ham United is mourning the loss of its U15 goalkeeper Oscar Fairs. The youth professional died of a brain tumor, as the club announced on Friday. Fairs was initially treated in August 2023 for palpitations, weakness on the right side of the body, headaches and nausea.
These symptoms were initially attributed to psychological problems and migraines. Only an MRI showed that he suffered from a nine-centimeter tumor on the left hemisphere of the brain, which was connected to the motor system and surrounded by three cysts.
West Ham’s sporting director Mark Noble commented on the tragic news: “On behalf of everyone at West Ham United, it is with deep regret that I must confirm that our U15 goalkeeper Oscar Fairs has passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. Oscar wasn’t just a great one goalkeeper, but also a wonderful person who was appreciated by everyone at the club.”
He added that Fair was well-liked by his teammates and in the academy for his friendly and respectful nature. “It is incredibly sad that his life was taken so early,” said Noble. As a mark of respect, West Ham have canceled all upcoming academy games over the weekend.
The club’s thoughts are primarily aimed at Fair’s parents and his brother Harry. The club asked that the family’s privacy be respected at this difficult time. West Ham also announced that they would honor Fair appropriately in the future and ensure that his name is not forgotten. Noble concluded by saying, “Rest in peace, brave Oscar.”
