Anyone who walked through the inner cities of Brabant on Tuesday at the beginning of the evening must have seen a striking amount of pink. All this has to do with the premiere of ‘Barbie the movie’. In Eindhoven, too, dozens of enthusiasts came to the Pathé cinema completely in pink. “It’s real childhood sentiment,” says one of the Barbie fans.
Pathé went big for the premiere of the film. The cinema chain organized a real BarbieNight throughout the Netherlands and therefore also in Eindhoven, Tilburg, Breda and Helmond. “We have sold 22,000 tickets for the premiere. The film is being screened in dozens of cinemas nationwide. In Eindhoven alone, there are seven screenings this Tuesday.”
“It’s secretly a bit of childhood sentiment.”
Marie is one of the visitors who goes to the movies completely in pink. “You grew up with it and I used to watch all the Barbie cartoons, so I’m looking forward to seeing this movie.”
Her friend Jillian has to admit that she prefers Barbie actress Margot Robbie. She was previously in the movie Harley Quinn and I’m a fan of hers, but secretly it’s also a bit of childhood sentiment for me,” she laughs: “Don’t tell anyone.”
Hannah has brought a pink clothing set and she is going to change clothes just before the film starts. “I am very curious about the film, but in the trailers I already saw that social themes are also mentioned. And that jokes are made to raise awareness. I think that’s good.”
“Barbie is an independent and powerful woman in this movie.”
Visitor Michelle is a big fan of actress Margot Robbie. “The movie really appeals to me because I think Barbie in the movie is very different from the stereotypical doll we know. I think Barbie in this movie is a very independent and powerful woman.”
Together with girlfriend Esmee, Dennis also comes to watch. He is one of the few men during the BarbieNight. “Barbie is for everyone and I love that it’s so tasty ‘over the top’ is. Plus, Barbie has really been an icon since the 1950s and I think that deserves a movie like this.”
