AC Milan has secured a good starting position for the second leg in the round of 16 first leg of the Champions League. In a tough game with very few highlights, Milan beat Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 (1-0).

The Italians took the lead with the first chance. A sharp ball in from Theo Hernández was used by Brahim Díaz from close range to finish. Goalkeeper Fraser Forster was able to save at first, but Díaz followed suit and headed the ball over the line (7′).

In the period that followed, Tottenham was the better team, but without being able to create any good chances. Milan withdrew, leaving the initiative to the English.

Lots of interruptions, few chances

But they couldn’t do much with the ball. It was often standards that created at least some danger. Overall, however, the spectators in San Siro saw a mixed game that was often interrupted by fouls or injuries.

This picture initially did not change even after the break. Again, Spurs were only marginally dangerous with corners and free kicks. Milan presented themselves stable and well organized in defence.

And in the closing stages, the Italians became dangerous. In the 78th and 79th minute, Charles De Ketelaere and the German U21 international Malick Thiaw missed the best opportunities and thus the chance of an even better starting position before the trip to London on March 8th.
