“Cannabis, Cocaine and Crystal METT!”

By Philip Fabian

The network laughs – this time about Markus Söder.

At the CDU party conference in Hanover, Bavaria’s state and CSU boss grumbled about the traffic light’s drug policy, which wants to legalize cannabis. The Greens would not go far enough, they would demand impunity for much harder drugs, he said.

It sounded like this: “Cannabis isn’t enough, you have to have cocaine and Crystal Mett!”

Is it a slip of the tongue if you don’t pronounce the English “th” from “crystal meth” (methamphetamine) in German?

Disputable – but the network didn’t care. Twitter ridicule followed immediately, “Crystal Mett” trended as a catchphrase, and a slew of pork chops drug jokes.

Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (59, SPD), for example, wrote: “Despite this scathing criticism from Markus Söder that the legalization of cannabis promotes Chrystal-Mett consumption, we do not hesitate. At least vegetarians remain safe.” In doing so, he misspelled the first part of the drug’s name himself (“Chrystal” instead of “Crystal”).

Others tried to imagine what an over-the-counter Mettwurst drug might look like:

…or how the consumption of this raw meat drug would work:

A Mettigel made of crystal glass also made the rounds:

By the way: The fact that the Greens are planning to legalize crystal meth, as Söder claimed, is not entirely true. In fact, the state Greens in Berlin called for the legalization of party drugs in August, citing cocaine, ecstasy and amphetamines, but not crystal meth.

The legalization of cannabis, on the other hand, is an official traffic light plan, the coalition agreement speaks of a “controlled sale of cannabis to adults for recreational purposes in licensed shops”. A corresponding law is currently being prepared, the first draft could be available at the end of 2022 or beginning of 2023.
