Those who want to stock up on camping gear at the last minute can be quite disappointed. Camping shops are still struggling with the aftermath of the corona dip. As a result, customers sometimes have to wait for months for their tent.
“A lot of camping gear is made in China. There, factories have almost come to a standstill and they now have to start up again,” says an employee of camping store De Wit Schijndel. “This is mainly noticeable in the number of tents that we receive. That is now slowly going in the right direction, but due to the shortage, customers often do not leave with their first choice.”
“Tents are not to be dragged.”
They recognize that image at camping shop Linberg from Molenschot. “Tents are a problem, they can’t be dragged on. Sometimes we do have to disappoint people,” said a customer service representative. “Some tents were ordered last summer and are only now arriving. A tip is to be there on time if you decide to go camping.”
Adventure Store Helmond already saw the liver problem a bit coming. “We bought enough of the new collection on time, so we don’t have any real problems,” says an employee.
“Camping has become more popular due to corona.”
But still the shoe pinches, because the number of orders has increased. And that’s not so crazy. Due to the corona rules, it was unclear for a long time whether a holiday was in it this year. “The corona period has really made camping more popular. You are more flexible than when you book a house.” The shops therefore do not see the crowds decrease for the time being.
