Borussia Dortmund has long been associated with Mohammed Kudus from Ajax Amsterdam. Now the midfielder himself has commented on his future. And the latest notes don’t sound like a farewell to BVB at all.
“I’m very happy at Ajax at the moment,” said the 22-year-old in an interview with Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.
Now is not the time to talk about financial appreciation. Nevertheless, he is basically open to extending his contract, which expires in 2025, according to the Ghanaian international. “Why shouldn’t I want to extend? I’m playing here and developing well.”
Last summer, however, his mood was very different. Frustrated with the reserve role, Kudus wanted to leave Amsterdam and switch to the Premier League.
“I was frustrated by the fact that Ajax blocked a transfer to Everton in the summer. I thought it was the right time for a new chapter,” he admitted.
BVB and Manchester United interested
Since he briefly missed training during this period, the accusation was even circulated that Kudus wanted to force a transfer by his absence. But this is not true, according to the left foot. “I wasn’t mentally in the condition to train. And if you’re not there in your head, then the risk of injury is high. That’s why we decided together that I’d pause,” Kudus said about the speculation.
The latest declarations of love for Ajax Amsterdam should not spark much joy at BVB. At the beginning of January, “Sky” reporter Florian Plettenberg reported that BVB would like to sign the versatile midfielder next summer.
Kudus has been brought into play as a potential successor to Jude Bellingham, even if the Ajax pro is a bit more offensive than the English youngster.
Other top European clubs are also said to have the youngster on their list. According to “Manchester Evening News”, Manchester United, for example, recently kept an eye on the Ghanaian.
