Bundesliga soccer team VfL Bochum has been honored with the “WestDerby Future” award for its commitment to sustainability.
The club received the prize at the future conference in the German Football Museum in Dortmund from Martin Sauer, Dortmund city representative for the 2024 European Championship. A total of 13 clubs were nominated.
Cooperation with university
The jury from the Regional Network Office for Sustainability Strategies West recognized, among other things, VfL’s sustainability strategy and materiality analysis in the “Professional Sports Clubs” category. The cooperation with Bochum University was also highlighted.
“The award confirms our actions and is a significant step towards achieving our vision of a sustainable overall strategy,” said Ilja Kaenzig, spokesman for the VfL management. Just a week ago, VfL was nominated for the German Sustainability Award for Sport, which will be awarded on November 24th.
