Great news from a French biathlon legend: Two-time Olympic medalist Marie-Laure Brunet has revealed on social media that she is expecting her first child. The 33-year-old is already in the fifth month of pregnancy.
Marie-Laure Brunet let the cat out of the bag on Sunday. The Frenchwoman commented on two pictures that show her on vacation in Greece with a baby bump with the words “Work in Progress”.
The former ski hunter revealed that she was already five months pregnant. Her first child with her husband Tony should therefore see the light of day towards the end of the summer.
The mom-to-be quipped, “I don’t know if it’s the feta cheese or the pitas, but the Greek air makes me feel bloated.”
Several medals at the 2012 Biathlon World Championships
Brunet ended her successful career as a biathlete in 2014. At the time, she cited “lack of motivation and personal reasons” as the cause. Before that, she was one of the figureheads of the French team for a long time.
At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Brunet finished third in the pursuit, winning the bronze medal behind Magdalena Neuner and Anastasiya Kuzmina. She even won silver in the relay.
The winter athlete achieved one of her greatest successes at the Biathlon World Championships in Ruhpolding in 2012. There Brunet achieved a silver medal in the individual, in the mass start and in the 4×6 km relay together with Marie Dorin-Habert, Sophie Boilley and Anaïs Bescond.
Brunet is currently a member of the Information Committee of the Biathlon World Federation IBU.
