Bayern Munich also convincingly won the second game in the Bundesliga on Sunday. In its own Allianz Arena, the team of trainer Julian Nagelsmann won 2-0 against VfL Wolfsburg. In Italy, Fiorentina, FC Twente’s opponent in the Conference League play-offs, took three points against Cremonese in injury time: 3-2.
Bayern laid the foundation for the win in the first half. After half an hour of play, Jamal Musiala broke the spell by shooting the ball into the long corner after a strong individual action from the edge of the penalty area.
Just before half time, Thomas Müller doubled the lead by deflecting a shot from Joshua Kimmich. In the second half, the German top club remained supreme, but no goals were added.
The win keeps Bayern top of the Bundesliga with six points from two matches. The superpower started last week with a resounding 6-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt. Borussia Dortmund is the only other club in the Bundesliga with the full loot.
At Bayern, Matthijs de Ligt, Ryan Gravenberch and Noussair Mazraoui started on the bench against Frankfurt, just like last week. Of the three, only Gravenberch entered the field. At Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven completed the ninety minutes.
Next Sunday, Bayern, which is chasing the eleventh league title in a row this season, will play its third league game. Nagelsmann’s team will then visit VfL Bochum.
