The journey to the next edition of the Eurovision Song Contest begins. In the absence of knowing the city ​​in which the British BBC will hold the galas in May 2023, any song that is commercialized from this September 1 may be chosen by the respective participating countries to participate in the contest organized by the European Broadcasting Union.

As established in article 2.2.2 of the contest regulations, the letter and the music of the candidate songs cannot be published before September 1. In the event that they have been publicly displayed on video platforms, concerts, social networks or databases, the participating country must inform the Eurovision Executive Supervisor (Martin Österdahl)who will evaluate if the composition is eligible to participate and determine if it has had any advantage over the rest.

In addition to this rule, and although it can be written in any language, the topic may not exceed 3 minutes in length, must not contain political allusions and may not mention trademarks. It should also be noted that it cannot be performed by artists under the age of 16.

Despite the fact that the venue and final dates are unknown at the moment, a few weeks ago, TVE revealed more details of theBenidorm Festival 2023‘, which will once again be your preselection to choose your representative in Eurovision after the success of audiences and the great third place of Chanel in the European contest.

The ‘Benidorm Fest’ will return with many variations compared to the previous year. The main novelty is the signing of Monica Naranjo as the first presenter, for the moment, of the space, while Nacho Cano will preside over the national jury and Christer Bjorkmanformer head of the Swedish delegation for 20 years and responsible for the ‘American Song Contest’, will be part of the panel of international experts.

The Benidorm Fest will also grow in its second edition: goes from 14 to 16 participants, 8 in the first semifinal and 8 in the second. Of them 8 will go to the grand final. The galas will take place on Tuesday, January 31, Thursday, February 2 and Saturday, February 4, with an opening on Sunday 29.

Where there are no novelties in the voting system, which will be the same as in the first edition: 50% of the weight for the professional jury and 50% for the public, divided equally between televoting and demographic jury.
