dfter long months of negotiations, and many controversies for the numerous refusals by many international big names (from Adele to Harry Styles), the organizers of the Coronation Concert at Buckingham Palace they finally managed to announce the first names. This outlines the list of artists who, on 7 May – the day after the Coronation – will perform in the park of Windsor Castle for the awaited concert of King Charles.
Andrea Bocelli at the Coronation of King Charles
He did it last year, for Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee, and now returns to London for the historic Coronation. Andrea Bocelli, who will perform a duet with the Welsh tenor Bryn Terfel, will be in good company: with him, in fact, there are also Katy Perryi Take That (without Robbie Williams), Lionel Ritchie, Carlo’s old friend, the English singer-songwriter Freya Ridings and the contemporary music musician Alexis Ffrench.
A whole new choir for King Charles
An important moment will be the performance of Coronation Choir, a group of voices that includes non-professional singers, belonging to choirs formed by refugees, doctors, nurses, deaf people and members of the LGBTQ+ community. They will also be joined by the Virtual Choircomposed of singers from Commonwealth countries, and a 74-piece orchestra.
A global audience of hundreds of millions of viewers
In Windsor, the concert will be held in front of an audience of over 10 thousand spectators who secured free tickets awarded last February through a drawing of lots. And Carlo also wanted to include volunteers from Royal charities, as well as a large group of local health workers.
Broadcast live on radio and television by the British broadcaster BBC, the show will also include classical dance and music performances, a sophisticated performance of lights, lasers and drones, and excerpts from works by Shakespeare, which Carlo is passionate about. Those who do not have a ticket will be able to follow the show for free from a big screen on the lawns of St. James’s Park, in London.
The controversy over the lineup too old”
Other artists will be announced by Buckingham Palace in the coming days and among these are now taken for granted also Paul McCartney, Rod Stewart and Queen, authentic veterans of Royal shows. However, while not yet final, the program has already been met with negative reviews.
After the refusals of numerous artists such as Adele, Harry Styles, Ed Sheeran, Elton John and Kylie Minogue, the organizers are accused of not having thought of the younger audience. And what was announced as a more spectacular concert than the Jubilee could risk flopping.
