Again North Holland success on the final day of the World Rowing Championships; Youssifou takes silver

On the final day of the World Rowing Championships in Czech Race, the Netherlands again won several medals. Amsterdam’s Laila Youssifou grabbed silver in the double sculls together with Roos de Jong. There was also a silver medal for both the men’s eight and the women’s eight. Karolien Florijn became the first Dutch rower ever to become world champion in the single scull.

The 29-year-old De Jong and the 26-year-old Youssifou have won a lot in the double sculls this season. They were only defeated for the first time at the European Championships in August. Ancuta Bodnar and Simone Radis from Romania then grabbed the gold. This time too, the duo turned out to be a size too big. The Romanian boat finished in a time of 6.47.77, more than four seconds faster than De Jong and Youssifou (6.51.02).

Successful World Cup

The Netherlands took a total of ten medals at the World Cup. Yesterday the Amsterdam duo Ymkje Clevering and Veronique Meester took a historic silver medal in the two-without. It was the first time in 44 (!) years that the Netherlands won a medal in this part at the World Cup.
