Away goals don’t matter anymore
Important change: Away goals no longer play a role, they used to be decisive several times. The German Football League (DFL) is thus adopting the UEFA standard that has been in effect since this season.
This means that in the relegation games for participation in the Bundesliga and the 2nd Bundesliga 2022/23, if there is a tie after the first and second leg, extra time and, if necessary, a penalty shoot-out will follow – in Germany the era of the away goals rule is ending, as in the European Cup.
