Freiburg-professional Vincenzo Grifo misses Christian Streich-mostly. In a certain situation, he is happy about the change of coach.
Vincenzo Grifo from SC Freiburg speaks openly about his feelings after the farewell to coach Christian Streich speaks openly with Felix Kroos and journalist Tobias Ahrens. After twelve years, Streich had left the club in the summer and handed over the coaching position to his former player Julian Schuster. “You can miss him a bit. Absolutely,” says the offensive player.
The 30-year-old, who was trained by Streich for seven years, tells of his recent meeting with the ex-coach: “We saw each other at the New Year’s reception and exchanged very well. Maybe if it is going on, let’s go for a coffee . ” But Grifo doesn’t just have to report positive things.
When asked about what he doesn’t miss in strokes, he replies with a laugh: “If he shouted at me or if he made me a pig, I don’t miss him.” Streich was a very emotional trainer who did not shy away from getting loud. Overall, however, the Pforzheim native looks back on the time together.
With Julian Schuster as a new coach, Grifo is satisfied despite the serious heritage. “I think Julian Schuster does the good, very, very, very good,” he praises the former SC Freiburg player. Schuster, who had previously worked as a liaison trainer under Streich, quickly gave himself into his new role: “We really behaved well, tried everything to continue, and so everything fits.”
Despite the emotional farewell of Streich, Grifo rates the development at SC Freiburg positively: “We did not know ourselves all where the trip is going after twelve years. But we have to say that we are very satisfied.” Schuster managed to maintain old virtues of the club, but at the same time to set new accents.
“A big compliment to Julian, who makes it really outstanding,” says the offensive player. Even in phases in which things are not optimal, the new trainer, just like its predecessor, found the right solutions.
