Bicycle manufacturer Amslod in Meppel is bankrupt. The court declared Dutch E-Mobility Group BV, the manufacturer behind Amslod, bankrupt just before Christmas.
At the end of last week it was announced that the bicycle manufacturer was going to file for bankruptcy. All shops and service points were closed immediately. The management wrote on the website: “The board sees no other way out than to file for bankruptcy for Amslod in the short term.” Now that bankruptcy has actually been declared.
It is not yet known what the sequel will be. A curator from the Yspeert law firm in Emmen, among others, has taken charge of the bankruptcy issue. The office states on the website that much is still unknown at this time and that the curator is doing his best to provide victims with information as quickly as possible. “It may therefore be that your questions cannot be fully answered immediately. We kindly ask you to be patient while we further investigate the situation.”
The foundation for Amslod was laid in 1915 in Koekange, by bicycle builder Dolsma. As a brand name, Dolsma reverses its surname and thus Amslod is created. In 2015, the brand was revived with its own store and showroom in Meppel with electric bicycles. In the years that followed, the company grew, but this year it ran into financial problems. In the summer, several stores were closed and a fifth of the staff was laid off. Now bankruptcy follows. Amslod still has thirteen stores in the Netherlands.
Earlier this year, other e-bike manufacturers also went bankrupt, such as Stella and Huyser. Companies in this sector speak of difficult market conditions.
