Wife Bruce Willis does not know whether he is aware of the condition himself: ‘Dementia is difficult’ | Show

“Dementia is tough,” said 45-year-old Heming Willis. “It is difficult for the person who is diagnosed. It’s also hard on the family. And it’s no different for Bruce, or myself, or our girls. And when they say it’s a family disease, it really is.” When asked whether her husband realizes that he suffers from frontotemporal dementia, she responds, “It is difficult to know for sure.”

Heming Willis also talks about the moment she learned her husband’s diagnosis, which she calls “a curse and a blessing.” “It doesn’t make it any less painful, but knowing what’s happening to Bruce does make it a little easier to accept.” Willis was diagnosed with aphasia last year, which makes communicating with him difficult. This followed early this year the official diagnosis of frontotemporal dementiaa rare form of the brain disease.
