Fights, riots, the worst insults. With the hot days, it gets hot again and again in Berlin’s swimming pools.
From the point of view of the Senate, incidents with bullying and rampaging young men in some Berlin outdoor pools “unfortunately cannot be completely prevented”. That’s what Interior Secretary Christian Hochgrebe (SPD) said yesterday in the Interior Committee of the House of Representatives. You see every single incident very critically: the number has been “declining” in recent years. Hochgrebe did not name specific figures. In the last three years, the outdoor pools had been emptier overall because of the corona pandemic.
It is no longer possible without security personnel: two to six security guards are deployed per pool, according to Hochgrebe. These teams are significantly reinforced in many pools on hot days and weekends. In addition, the bathing establishments worked closely with the police.
In the last five years, more than 730 house bans have been issued in Berlin’s outdoor pools. Most in the outdoor pool in Pankow (211), in the summer pool at the Insulaner (102) and in the Columbiabad in Neukölln (94). Main reason: Violations of the house rules.
