Swimming pool Kwekkelstijn in Rosmalen will be forced to close the indoor pool next week, because it has suffered too much damage due to the extreme rainfall on Saturday. The basement of the pool has flooded with water, which means that the technical system of the pool no longer works.
A wet, stuffy basement where you can still see an edge on the wall of how high the water was. “Everything here was empty,” says manager Willem-Jan Vrolijk. He points to three large metal cabinets. “These control boxes ensure that everything in the bath above is controlled. But they were damaged by the water.”
And so Willem-Jan cannot open the indoor pool for swimmers for the time being. When again, that is the question. “Let’s get everything dry here first.”

Meanwhile, the fire brigade is running up and down with large, heavy hoses. They are placed in the water in the back of the basement. There is another deep hole that is full of water. “If we’re lucky, we can fix everything quickly,” says the pool manager. “But we still have to make an inventory of what exactly is broken.”
The water entered the pool through ventilation grilles. Then it flowed to the lowest point, the basement. “It kept getting higher and higher. It had nowhere to go,” explains Willem-Jan.

Never before has Willem-Jan had so much flooding. “I was shocked, especially when I saw how high the water has risen.” Yet he remains positive. “Now I just want to make sure that the bath can open again and that people can enjoy it again.”
