After the rousing football game between FC Hansa Rostock and Hamburger SV on Sunday, the police are investigating a number of violent spectators. A police spokesman said on Monday that 14 people, including 12 police officers, were injured in clashes and the throwing of pyrotechnics. Among other things, there were massive attacks on officials during the half-time break in the stadium on the south stand, with a fire extinguisher being thrown at police officers. A 41-year-old suspect was arrested. The police had to use irritants and batons to calm the heated situation.
During the game, too, there were further provocations among the fan blocks and the burning of stolen fan paraphernalia from the opposing sides. On departure, both fan camps had to be further separated from each other at the main train station. In addition, there had been stone-throwing attacks by hooded people on a train from Hamburg in Bützow station before the game, which resulted in damage to property. There was a march by Hansa fans throwing pyrotechnics at officials.
The police said the police were investigating dangerous interference in rail traffic, suspicion of breach of the peace, robbery, bodily harm, theft, attacks on law enforcement officers, violation of the Narcotics and Explosives Act and property damage. In total, more than 1,800 officers were deployed.
