PSV wants to recover very quickly against Ajax: ‘We are used to a busy schedule’ | Dutch football

PSV hopes to recover against Ajax in the Kuip on Sunday afternoon after the blow against Leicester City. The team from Eindhoven will not play the cup final under the easiest of circumstances: PSV flew out of the Europa Conference League on Thursday and must quickly process the disappointment in order to offer Ajax a good match.

Trainer Roger Schmidt indicated that his team will no longer be able to train tactically in the coming days and that a large part of the match against Leicester has given him confidence that it is possible to put a good pot on the mat against Ajax.

,,We are used to a busy schedule and can now also reach a high level. Of course it is not easy and we must now do everything we can to recover. But we are playing for a great prize and that gives a lot of energy.”

No new players expected

Schmidt was not yet able to say exactly what the selection will look like. ,,I haven’t spoken to any players after the game against Leicester. Ryan Thomas won’t be there and I don’t think there will be any new players. Maybe I can ask John de Jong and Toon Gerbrands to sign someone else or persuade Armando Obispo that he can play for a few minutes, but I think we have to make do with the current group for the most part.”

Schmidt has always emphasized that the cup tournament offers the chance of a very serious prize for PSV, which won the battle for the Johan Cruijff Scale earlier this season. “I think it’s a great format. When the referee blows the whistle and you’ve won the match, you can really put your hands in the air.”
