Serena Williams has made her comeback to the international tennis circuit with a victory in doubles. The 44-year-old American won in the first round of the grass tournament at Queen’s in London with 19-year-old Victoria Mboko against Nicole Melichar-Martinez and Erin Routliffe: 7-6 (2) 6-2.
Williams played her last official tennis match at the 2022 US Open. She then had 23 Grand Slam singles titles and fourteen doubles titles to her name. In 2023 she had a second daughter.
On June 1, the tennis icon made her return is announced. Rumors about a possible Williams comeback have been in the air for some time. In December last year, she rejoined tennis’ doping testing program. After six months you are eligible to play again.
Next week Williams will compete in doubles during the WTA tournament in Berlin. It is not yet known with whom she is a couple in the German capital.
