Sport is currently completely secondary for Christian Eriksen. For the second time he collapsed on the field. Now there is a call for resignation.

Christian Eriksen has received calls to resign following another collapse on the pitch. Former Danish international Thomas Gravesen spoke out in favor of the VfL Wolfsburg professional ending his career.

“This is no longer about career. This is about life. It is Christian Eriksen’s life that is at stake,” said Gravesen on the streaming service Viaplay.

Eriksen collapsed during Denmark’s international match against Ukraine at the weekend. The incident happened almost exactly five years after his collapse at the 2021 European Championships. The midfielder himself has since given the all-clear and said that he is doing well. Gravesen also justified his demand with the impact on the 34-year-old’s private environment.

“I saw his wife storming back onto the pitch. What situation is he putting her in?” said the former professional, who also played for Hamburger SV in Germany. Eriksen’s wife witnessed both collapses in the stadium.

“You have to think outside the box. Football is completely irrelevant when something like that happens,” Gravesen continued. At the same time, he took the Danish Football Association to task. If necessary, this should persuade Eriksen to end his career.

Eriksen: “I’m fine”

However, in his statement after being discharged from the hospital, Eriksen did not discuss his sporting future.

The “shock” had a major impact on him and his family. At the same time, he explained: “But I want to reassure everyone that this was a different situation than what happened in 2021. I am fine and my recovery has already begun.”

At the 2021 European Championships, Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch and had to be resuscitated. He was later fitted with a defibrillator. The midfielder is under contract with VfL Wolfsburg until 2027. Denmark did not qualify for the World Cup.
