Two new The Cure albums are in preparation – one dark, one poppier than ever. Smith himself says: It’s reminiscent of his work with Olivia Rodrigo.

The Cure have two albums on hold. One is already finished, another work with a “pop” sound is currently still in the workshop. Robert Smith says it might remind fans of his collaboration with Olivia Rodrigo.

The Cure are working on new music, as they announced in their official bio last October. There had been no new songs from the band since the 2024 album “Songs Of A Lost World”. But The Cure haven’t been idle in the meantime: another album has already been completed and, according to lead singer Robert Smith, is on its way to the Universal record company – so it shouldn’t be long in coming. It is darker than “Songs Of A Lost World”. The new record is connected to the previous album, but with a new perspective.

Now comes Cure Pop

For her third, still unfinished project, Smith gave interesting hints about a possible sound. It will probably be “pop” – and could remind listeners of his collaboration with 23-year-old Olivia Rodrigo.

However, it was not influenced by her. In an interview with BBC6 Music, he said: “People think, ‘Ah, it’s because he’s working with Olivia.’ Because the third album is actually quite upbeat. It’s very poppy, but doesn’t compare melodically to the things Olivia does. It’s my idea of Cure Pop. It’s probably 20 BPM slower than anything she does. But [im Vergleich dazu,] what we’ve been doing for the last few years, it really rocks. “It’s banging.”

Three sold out shows in Berlin

There is likely to be a big contrast between the first, dark release and the second, poppy release. It is unclear how long the two new albums will be released. The band’s open-air summer 2026 is currently starting, during which they will also be coming to the DACH region.

On June 12th, The Cure will play the Nova Rock Festival in Austria during the day; on July 10th, 11th and 12th evening in Berlin at the Parkbühne Wuhlheide. The three headline shows are already completely sold out, but there are still festival and day passes available for Nova Rock, which start at 154 euros.
