Denmark international Christian Eriksen clutched his chest before collapsing to the ground during Sunday’s friendly against Ukraine. Eriksen, 34, received immediate treatment and was taken to hospital.

The case had the same characteristics as in the summer 2021 European Championship, when Eriksen fell to the surface of the field in the match against Finland. Eriksen’s heart stopped and he had to be resuscitated.

After the incident, Eriksen was fitted with a pacemaker, which did its job on Sunday.

– I want everyone to know that I’m fine and I’m at home with my family. As you can imagine, because I got [sähkö]shock from my arrhythmia pacemaker, has a big impact on me and my family. I want to emphasize that this is a different situation than 2021, Eriksen wrote in the Instagram update he published in the evening.

Eriksen’s situation has been talked about in football circles since Sunday’s incident. Denmark’s former national team star of Thomas Gravesen think Eriksen should end his career.

– This has nothing to do with the player’s career anymore. It’s about life. It is here as a contribution, Gravesen stated according to Ekstra Bladet.

According to Gravesen, Eriksen should put family first.

– I saw his wife rush onto the field again. What kind of situation is he putting his wife in? He better think of others a little. Football is completely irrelevant when something like this happens, Gravesen sees.

Gravesen, a long-term key figure of the Danish national team and currently working as a TV commentator for Viaplay, feels that the Danish Football Association must intervene if Eriksen does not intend to end his career himself.

– They have to say that we are responsible for your safety and that you are well. Let’s talk about life now. We cannot stress enough what we are talking about. These are absolutely terrible situations that we have to witness, Gravesen appeals.

Eriksen has played no less than 151 national matches in his career, in which he has scored 46 goals.

He has represented Ajax, Inter, Tottenham, Brentford, Manchester United and Wolfsburg at the club team level.
