The most popular Flemish film of 2025 will not receive government funding for a third part. ‘Patsers’ attracted 230,000 visitors that year, but the producers were told by the VAF that the fund “is not there to sponsor successful franchises”. For Jan Verheyen (63) and Marc Punt (63), the only professionals who wanted to testify openly, this is symptomatic of what is seriously wrong with the fund that annually sponsors Flemish film with millions of euros of taxpayers’ money.
